Every once in a while, you encounter someone so incredibly special, you feel like they can't possibly be real. Todd Haberkorn is one of those people for me.
I've known who he is for a while, hearing him in different animes and such, but I never put a lot of thought into it. It was basically "oh, it's Todd" and that was it. Fast forward to 2015, and it's a whole different story. Now, I find myself looking up shows he's in and watching them just to hear him. Coincidentally, I've discovered a lot of really good shows that way. The sad part is, my bank account doesn't want me to own them...but I will.
This June, I'm going to have an opportunity to meet him at Denver Comic Con, and I'm about 99.9999999% sure I'm going to do it. If you know me pretty well, you know that I'm naturally a painfully shy person until I get to know someone. Any celebrity encounter I've had has been far too brief to make that kind of connection, so it's always a bit awkward. However, thanks to twitter, my time with Todd might be different. We've had so many interactions, I've joked that we're Twitter married... Ha. I'm thinking, though, that my "notice me, sempai" demeanor might (hopefully) work to my advantage. Either that or blow up in my face. O.o......
In all seriousness, Todd's a fantastic person. He's so nice to his fans, and even though some don't appreciate it, he's undoubtedly touched a lot of hearts, mine included. A month ago, my grandma ended up in the hospital again. Everyone thought she was going to pull through and be okay, because she always did. This time, she didn't. Losing her crushed me. I didn't know how I was going to go on without her. I was with a couple friends when it happened, and we were watching Fairy Tail. Hearing Todd as Natsu made me smile, which I felt was impossible at the time. So, I went on twitter, and this happened:
Me: The heartbreak I'm feeling right now is inexplicable...but thanks to @toddhaberkorn and his awesomeness, I'm able to smile. #fairytail
I wasn't expecting a reply, I never do. I know he's busy and he's got better things to do than comfort a broken stranger. However, he saw things differently than I did. The next morning, I woke up and checked my phone. I had a couple Twitter notifications, and one was from Todd. He told me to "keep my fire alive". There are no words to describe how much that meant to me. I've tried telling him on twitter, and on Instagram, but he didn't see the messages. So, I'm going to use my chance at DCC to tell him. If that's the only thing I accomplish that day, it will be worth it.
This man has a fan on me for as long as he keeps acting, that's for sure.
